Road Safety Audits
1. The Road Safety review and audit are conducted in accordance with industry standards, SANRAL design policies and guidelines, and The South African Road Safety Audit Manual (2nd Edition, May 2012).
2. Many people have strong sentiments about road safety audits. The long-term effects of people killed or injured on our roads on families and communities cause long-term suffering, life-changing circumstances, and economic loss.
3. Provision of the Road Safety Audit Team Leader and Team Members in charge of preparing the Audit Brief / Audit Report in accordance with the South African Road Safety Strategy 2016.
4. Traffic Barricade’s methodology is more outlined, elaborative, and detailed. Road accidents are caused by a variety of factors, including poor road and highway conditions, vehicle malfunction, and driver mistake. The Road Safety Audit (RSA) procedure is one of the techniques implemented to reduce collisions by encouraging good highway or road design and making the freeways or roads a safer environment for all road users.
5. The Audit Team Leader conducts the Commencement Meeting, Information Review, and Site Inspection, which includes the Head of Environmental Impact Assessment (ETA) or his / her lawfully nominated representative.
6. Monthly progress meetings are held, with stakeholder participation. The information gathered through stakeholder engagements is critical and is taken into account when conducting the road safety audit and creating mitigation measures.
7. The Audit Team Leader is in charge of compiling the Road Safety Audit Report and Audit Brief. and it describes the background material, reports on the road safety audit results, and makes suggestions to remedy the observed safety problems, all as described in the South African Road Safety Audit Manual –RTMC (May 2012).
8. Risk Assessment and Key Findings Presentation – The Audit Team Leader, in collaboration with the Audit Team Members, assesses the risk of safety hazards and presents the important findings to the ETA to choose a plan of action.
9. The advantages of a Road Safety Audit include the following: o Identifying any potential road safety issues with the design and its relationship with the surrounding highway or road network.
-
- Considering the plan concepts’ safety impacts on all expected road users.
- ·Providing the designer with the option to minimize or mitigate any potential road safety issues.
- Reducing the possibility of collisions as a result of a proposed motorway or road scheme or enhancement.
- Potentially lowering project approval delays.
- Potentially lower design and on-site improvement costs.
As part of our quality audit process, we can broaden the scope of a Road Safety Audit to include, but not be limited to, the following:
-
- Audit of Road Safety.
- Audit of non-mototrised user
- Access audit
